A great read and one we should all become familiar with. At the end, I was saddened to think this beautiful wolf family that we had come to know might have been unnecessarily poisoned. Highly recommended. March 26, - Published on Amazon.
Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat Essay example
If everyone read this book there would no more killing of this animal. I felt I was there with him, watching and being part of the wolf family. I envy his experience with one of my favorite animals. He make me love my dogs even more.
September 8, - Published on Amazon. The book is a great read and offers great insights to the author, the Inuit, the beliefs and workings of the era and, of course, the wolf. However, there are many elements of the book that are clearly fictional to some extent even supported by words of the author and his reporting on wolf behaviour, notably feeding habits is not wholly supported by more recent studies. My guess is he reported what he saw, but missed a lot as well.
Having stated my criticisms I would still strongly recommend the book, just have a grain of salt handy.

It takes a special sort of person to endure the frozen wilderness to study arctic wolf behavior at length, and to accept that these beautiful animals are intelligent and amazing killing machines that don't need to fulfill people's desires to view them as non-threatening mouse-eaters.

The greatest lie was that wolves live mostly on small rodents, when every wolf researcher in the world knows wolves eat large prey. Caribou, moose, elk, deer, even beaver for the rich fat supplies, but living on rodents, pure fiction. One can tell of the beauty of an animal such as the gray wolf without embellishment.
