Literally, this book was purchased and read as required reading for a class I am taking on Chaplaincy for Crisis Responders. I hadn't readlized until I finished reading that one of the authors will be teaching the class. The book was a solid read with great personal connection to the topic. I am even more interested in the subject matter, and anticipate enjoying the class even more than initially expected having read this book. I would highly reommend it not only to those tasked with crisis chaplaincy, but anyone who wishes to better understand how to be present for a friend, family member or neighbor in crisis.
Easy to read with spot-on stories and recommendations.
As a trauma chaplain who has worked the ED in a major, metro hospital as well as Red Cross shelters, Disaster Action Team responses and hurricanes, this book is great for teaching and refreshing. Very realistic in the application of scripture within the first I highly recommend it to Chaplains and other pastoral caregivers.
Kevin Ellers and Jennifer CIsney are highly-respected leaders in this area as well as being experienced spiritual caregivers. They provide great instruction, information, and tips for those who provide emotional and spiritual care in emergencies and at disasters. Each chapter contains instructional material, tips, questions to consider, and real-life examples which makes it easy to apply what they teach. Each subject is covered thoroughly without being long or clinical.
